Wiki

Your guide through Hoenn.

This wiki explains how the game plays: what you see on screen, how to raise your team, how battles, trades and the GTS work, and how to get from your first step in Littleroot to your first gym badge. Setup, ROMs and the wallet are covered in the docs.

The story is the one from the Emerald edition. If you have played it before, you will feel at home right away. The differences are mostly about other players: they walk next to you, chat, trade and battle with you.

🌐

Place and character names in this wiki follow the English edition. All texts in the game come from your own ROM, so with a German, French, Spanish or Japanese ROM the names on screen are the ones of your edition.

First steps

You need an account to play. Your username is also your trainer name, so when the professor welcomes you he only asks whether you are a boy or a girl. After that you ride the moving truck to Littleroot, and the adventure begins.

Your progress is saved on the game server whenever something important happens. There is no save menu and no save slot to lose: sign in on another device and you continue exactly where you left off.

The game screen

Menus float on top of the game picture, like in other online games. Each window can be dragged by its title bar; double-click the title bar to put it back.

WhereWhat
Top leftCurrent location, your money and the connection status.
RightYour team with HP bars. Click a monster to open the team window, drag one onto another slot to change the order.
Bottom leftChat with three tabs: Map for everyone nearby, Players for trade and battle requests, Friends for your friend list.
Bottom rightBag, trainer card, dex and GTS.
Quick slotsUp to five registered key items, used with 1 to 5 (like the SELECT button).

The trainer card shows your trainer ID, money, play time, badges and dex count, and it is where you link a wallet. The dex lists every monster you have seen and caught.

Moving around

Walk with the arrow keys or W A S D, talk and confirm with Z, Space or Enter. On phones and tablets a D-pad with A and B appears.

  • Running: once you have the running shoes, press B to switch between walking and running. Unlike the original you don't have to hold the button. Indoors and on some tiles you always walk.
  • Your partner: the first healthy monster in your team follows you around, and other players can see it. Face it and press A to make it hop.
  • Ledges can be jumped down but not climbed. If a path seems blocked, look for another way around.

Your team

You carry up to six monsters. The team window shows each one in detail: level, XP, moves with their PP, stats, nature, individual values (IVs) and effort values (EVs).

Stats, IVs and EVs

  • Nature raises one stat by 10 % and lowers another. The raised stat is shown in red, the lowered one in blue.
  • IVs (0–31 per stat) are fixed when a monster is caught or hatched.
  • EVs grow with every defeated monster, up to 255 per stat and 510 in total. Each species gives EVs in specific stats. Stats update right away instead of at the next level-up.

Moves and storage

Reorder moves with ▲ and ▼ in the team window (not during battle). A monster that tries to learn a fifth move asks which one to forget. Monsters beyond your six go to the PC box, which you also reach from the team window.

Evolution

Monsters evolve after a battle when they reach the right level or condition, with the classic evolution scene. Trade evolutions work when you trade with another player.

Battles & catching

Walking through tall grass, caves or water can start a wild encounter. Choose Fight, Bag, Monster or Run. Battle mechanics, damage, catch rates and XP follow the original Gen 3 formulas exactly, and every roll happens on the server.

Type matchups

Super effective moves deal double damage, resisted moves half. A few early examples:

TypeStrong againstWeak against
GrassWater, Rock, GroundFire, Flying, Bug, Poison, Ice
FireGrass, Bug, Ice, SteelWater, Rock, Ground
WaterFire, Rock, GroundGrass, Electric
RockFire, Flying, Bug, IceWater, Grass, Fighting, Ground, Steel

Catching

  • Weaken the monster first. Low HP raises the catch chance a lot.
  • Sleep and freeze help the most, paralysis, poison and burn a little.
  • Better balls give better odds. Rare monsters are harder to catch.
  • After a catch you can give your new monster a nickname.

Losing a battle

If your whole team faints, you lose half of your money and wake up at the last healing center you visited (or at home), with your team fully healed.

Healing & shopping

Every town with a red roof has a healing center. Talk to the nurse at the counter and your team is healed for free. Visiting one also makes it your respawn point.

Marts (blue roof) sell potions, balls and status cures. Bigger towns stock more items. You can also sell items there for half their price.

Trainers & gyms

Trainers stand along routes and challenge you as soon as you step into their line of sight. You can't run from trainer battles. Win and you get prize money. Some trainers can be challenged again later; talk to them.

Eight gym leaders wait across Hoenn, each specialized in one type. Every badge proves your strength, makes traded monsters up to a higher level obey you and unlocks field moves outside of battle. Badges are also mirrored onchain if you link a wallet.

Playing together

  • Chat: one channel per map. Press Enter to type.
  • Trading: once you have two monsters, open a player's request in the Players tab. Both sides see the offer with all stats and confirm. Your starter stays with you and can't be traded.
  • Player battles: challenge anyone on your map. Both teams fight as copies, so nobody loses HP or items. Only the win counts.
  • Cutscenes: other players are hidden during story scenes.

Friends

Friendships go both ways: you send a friend request, and once the other player accepts it, you are friends with each other. Your friend list holds up to 100 players (sent requests count too) and is kept on the server, so it follows you to every device.

  • Sending a request from the chat: tap + friend next to a message, or next to a name in the Players tab.
  • Searching by name: open the Friends tab and type the start of a trainer name, then tap Send request. Results show whether the player is online and their trainer ID, so you can tell players with the same name apart.
  • Answering requests: a new request shows a green notice at the top of the screen and a number on the Friends tab. Open the tab and choose Accept or Decline. If you decline, neither of you is added. Requests wait for you while you are offline.
  • Notices: you also get a notice when someone accepts your request and when a friend comes online. Click a notice to open your friend list. The tab title shows how many friends are online right now.
  • On the map: friends have a green name tag that stays visible even when they are far away. Their chat messages are green, too.
  • Removing: remove in the list ends the friendship for both of you. Requests you sent can be withdrawn under Sent requests.

GTS

The GTS is a marketplace for monsters and items, open from the button at the bottom right. Offer a monster from your team or items from your bag for in-game money, or search what others are selling.

  • Prices start at 1,000. Listing costs 5 % of the price (at least 500).
  • The listing fee is not refunded if you take an offer back.
  • You can have up to 10 offers at once.
  • Offers stay up while you are offline. Your proceeds wait for you the next time you open the GTS.
  • Like in trades, your starter can't be listed.

Shop & supporter pass

The shop (price-tag button at the bottom right) sells special items for SOL. You pay with your Solana wallet; the server checks the payment on-chain and puts the item in your bag. Special items can be sold to other players on the GTS.

  • Supporter Pass for 7, 14 or 31 days (0.1, 0.15 or 0.2 SOL). It lands in the Items pocket of your bag; use it whenever you like. The pass is used up right away.
  • While it runs: +10 % prize money after trainer battles, +10 % chance of shiny wild monsters and +15 % EXP after battles (wild and trainer).
  • Using another pass while one is active adds its days on top.
  • If you close the window before the payment is confirmed, the item arrives the next time you open the shop.

Leaving the game

Close the tab whenever you like. If you come back within five minutes, everything is still there, even a running battle. After that, an unfinished wild or trainer battle counts as lost. Trades and player battles end immediately when one side leaves.

If you open the game on a second device, the first one is disconnected so that only one copy of your trainer walks around.

Road to the first badge

The first part of the adventure takes you from Littleroot through Oldale and Petalburg to Rustboro City, where Roxanne leads the Rock-type gym. Here is the big picture without spoilers:

  1. Help the professor and choose your first partner.
  2. Meet your rival and get your dex.
  3. Visit your father at the Petalburg gym.
  4. Cross Petalburg Woods to Rustboro City.
  5. Beat Roxanne and earn the Stone Badge.

Tips

  • Grass or water starter: both are super effective against Rock. Roxanne will have a hard time.
  • Fire starter: fire is weak against Rock. Catch a grass- or water-type on the way, or train your starter until it evolves and learns a Fighting move.
  • Aim for level 13–15 before the gym. Wild battles in Petalburg Woods and on Route 104 are good training.
  • Carry a few potions and heal at the Rustboro center before the gym.

Walkthrough

⚠

Spoilers ahead. Only open a chapter if you are stuck and don't know where to go next.

1 · Littleroot Town

After the truck ride your mom welcomes you in your new house. Go upstairs and set the clock in your room. It runs on real time.

Visit the house next door, the professor's family. Your rival is upstairs in their room. Then leave town to the north towards Route 101.

2 · Route 101: your first partner

At the entrance of Route 101 the professor is being chased by a wild monster. He asks you to grab a ball from his bag. Choose one of the three: grass, fire or water. The battle that follows is easy, just use your attack move.

Back at the lab the professor lets you keep your partner, and you can give it a nickname. He suggests you go and see your rival on Route 103.

3 · Oldale Town and Route 103

Walk north through Route 101 to Oldale Town. It has a healing center and a mart. A mart clerk walks you to the shop and gives you a free potion.

Continue north to Route 103. Your rival is waiting there and battles you. Heal first, it's your first real trainer battle. Afterwards return to the lab in Littleroot.

4 · Dex, balls and running shoes

In the lab the professor gives you the dex, and your rival hands you a few balls. Now you can catch wild monsters.

When you try to leave Littleroot, your mom stops you and gives you the running shoes. Press B to switch between walking and running.

5 · Route 102 to Petalburg City

From Oldale go west onto Route 102. Several trainers wait in the grass, which is good XP. Catch a monster or two to round out your team. At the end of the route lies Petalburg City.

6 · Petalburg gym: your father and Wally

Enter the Petalburg gym. Your father Norman is the gym leader here, but he won't battle you yet. A shy boy named Wally comes in, and your father asks you to help him catch his first monster.

Follow Wally back to Route 102 and watch him catch one. Then return to the gym with him. Your father tells you to go to Rustboro City and earn your first badge there.

7 · Route 104 and Petalburg Woods

Leave Petalburg to the west onto Route 104. Head north past the beach and the fisherman's cottage. A few trainers stand along the way.

In Petalburg Woods a researcher is looking for a rare monster when a villain from Team Aqua shows up and tries to steal his papers. Battle the grunt to chase him off. As thanks the researcher gives you a better ball. Explore the woods for items, then leave through the north exit.

8 · Route 104 north and Rustboro City

North of the woods you pass a flower shop (stop by for a watering can and berries) and cross a long bridge with more trainers, including a pair of twins who challenge you to a double battle. Keep going north to reach Rustboro City.

Heal at the center and stock up at the mart. The trainer school near the entrance explains status conditions if you want a refresher.

9 · Rustboro gym: Roxanne

Roxanne uses Rock types. Her gym trainers use them too, so they are good practice and you can heal in between.

  • Grass and water moves are super effective. Fighting and Steel work as well.
  • Fire, Normal and Flying moves do little damage against Rock.
  • Her strongest monster is level 15 and knows Rock Tomb, which also lowers your speed. She carries potions, so keep up the pressure.

Win and you receive the Stone Badge plus a TM with Rock Tomb. Congratulations, your journey through Hoenn has really begun.
